How to invent your own

Start with something you love — a film, a band, a food, your pet's name — and look for a word inside it that sounds like LAN, Fi, Net, Ping, Router or Byte. That swap is where almost every great WiFi name comes from.

Or skip the brainstorming: the NamesYouLove name generator has a WiFi network names category. Pick a theme like Funny / punny, Movies or Food, and it gives you fresh ideas in one click.

• ✦ Most routers allow up to 32 characters.
• ✦ Avoid your surname or address — it tells strangers which network is yours.
• ✦ Change the name in your router's settings page or app.
