How to choose a business or brand name that sticks
A practical checklist for picking a brand name that is memorable, easy to spell and available online.
Start with what you want people to feel
Before generating a single name, write down three words that describe how you want customers to feel. Trustworthy? Playful? Premium? Those words map directly to the Vibe setting in NamesYouLove — pick Elegant / classy for a premium brand, Funny / punny for a snack shop, or Minimalist for a tech product.
Names that match a clear feeling are easier to remember because they tell a small story on their own.
Keep it short and easy to say
The best brand names are usually one or two words and under 12 letters. Use the Short or Medium length option and the 1–2 word setting to keep results tight. Say each shortlisted name out loud: if you have to spell it for someone, it will be hard to find online.
- ✦ Avoid double letters at word boundaries (e.g. "Sweettea").
- ✦ Skip numbers and hyphens unless they are core to the idea.
- ✦ Test the name on a friend who has never heard it.
Check availability early
A name you love is only useful if you can use it. Switch the category to Domain names to see web-address-style versions, and use the Check YouTube button to see whether the matching @handle is free. Then confirm on the official sites and search your country's trademark database before you commit.
Blend in a keyword
Under More filters, type a keyword like "bloom" or "whisk" to blend it into the results. This is a quick way to keep your industry recognisable while still getting fresh, unique combinations.
