Cool Minecraft username ideas (and the rules you need to know)
Hundreds of cool Minecraft name ideas, Minecraft's username rules, and an easy way to find one that isn't taken.
Minecraft username rules
Before you fall in love with a name, make sure Minecraft will accept it. Java Edition usernames must be 3–16 characters and can only use letters, numbers and underscores — no spaces, dots or emoji. Every name must be unique, so the short, obvious ones are long gone.
- ✦ 3–16 characters
- ✦ Letters, numbers and _ only
- ✦ You can change a Java name once every 30 days
Cool name ideas by style

Make it yours
The easiest way to get an unused name is to blend in something personal: your nickname, a favourite number or a pet's name. In the NamesYouLove name generator, choose the Gamer category, pick Minecraft as the game, then open "Make it yours" to add your own name at the start, middle or end.
Under Text style you can also turn on Numbers to add a random or custom number — handy when your favourite idea is already taken.
- ✦ Avoid your real full name or birth year online.
- ✦ Pick something you'll still like in two years.
- ✦ Use the same name on Discord and YouTube so friends can find you.
